Our Programs
PROGRAM OUTLINE
The Inner City Tennis Project has both a Recreational and a Competitive Program and
there is a definite distinction between the two.
Recreational: Entry level for beginners year-round, with limited enrollment from
September through April. For intermediate and advanced players, open enrollment
during the summer only. Spring, fall and winter program by invitation of directors.
Competitive: This program is continuous. It is designed to prepare the child for
tournament, high school, and college tennis. It is expected that both child and parent
understand the goals and the requirements of the Competitive Program as described
below.
EXPECTATIONS OF THE CHILD
1. Must have tennis goals (tournament player, high school, college)
2. Must demonstrate work ethic to achieve the goal
3. Consistent practice attendance
4. Tournament participation (1 every 6 weeks)
5. Summer camp participation and tournament program
6. Academic eligibility/excellence
EXPECTATIONS OF THE PARENT
1. Supportive of child’s goals (encouraging and supportive)
2. Financially supportive (as much as possible)
3. Willing to invest some personal time to assist child
4. BE A PARENT- NOT A COACH
5. Observation of child’s desire and commitment
6. Open communication with coaches and child
7. Participation in the ICTP parents' organization activities
EXPECTATIONS OF THE COACHES
1. To be fair and honest with parent and child
2. To be concerned with the total child – not just the sport
3. To maintain open communication with child and parent
4. To develop the child’s physical, technical, and mental potential necessary to
achieve his/her goals
5. To encourage healthy life-time choices and avoidance of negative activities
We look forward to working with you and your child. We have tried to clarify the
significant differences between the two programs that we offer, however, if any questions
remain about the requirements of either the Recreational or the Competitive programs,
please don’t hesitate to ask us. We are willing to discuss the program and your child's
participation in it at any time.
SUMMER CAMPS
The National Junior Tennis League
(NJTL) is a nationwide USTA program designed to introduce youth to the sport of
tennis. It combines lessons with immediate competition to encourage participation
and enjoyment of the sport. The Inner City Tennis Project partners with the Cincinnati
Recreation Commission to conduct this free, eight week summer program at the Losantiville
Triangle Tennis Courts. The program runs from mid June to mid August. There are many
alternate sites for the NJTL summer programs sponsored by the Cincinnati Recreation
Commission. For information about locations near your home or for additional CRC
program information, please call 513-352-4020.
